BUYING a home abroad may be off the cards for now due to coronavirus restrictions. But as the recovery from the virus begins, where are the best places to buy abroad in 2021?

Lockdown restrictions mean fulfilling dreams of moving abroad for retirement or otherwise are currently squandered, but as the vaccination programme is well underway, it shouldn't be too long before we can travel abroad and begin investing in property once again. But where should you be buying on the continent in 2021?
The pandemic has resulted in unprecedented changes of how we live, with many now considering escaping Britain now they are not tied to the office - permanently or for a holiday home.
Another push is the lower cost of living in many other countries across the world, with the UK being one of the most expensive places to live.
Countries like France and Spain have been the property hotspots for British buyers for a number of years, with warmer year-round climates and friendly atmospheres being some of the biggest pulls.
In Spain, international buyers make up 15 percent of Spain's property market, making it one of the most popular places to live for expats from around the world.

Christopher Nye, Senior Editor at Property Guides has advised that some of the best places to take a look at are little further away than the most popular places for British buyers.
He said: "At Property Guides we've seen a big increase in enquiries for Greece, roughly 40 percent being for holiday homes and 60 percent. for a retirement or relocation there.
"Another interesting one is Ireland, where enquiries are up by 25 percent or so since 2019. Buyers in Ireland are generally looking for retirement, and that is easier than in the rest of the EU as post-Brexit rules don't apply here in the same way.
"It's been impossible to buy in the USA for the past year but we expect it to bounce back strongly when flights resume.

"Florida has already vaccinated over 10 percent of its population so there is potential for both countries to be open ahead of others.
"Property is inexpensive and there is likely to be pent up demand for fun at places like Disneyworld.
"Overall, however, France and Spain are still out in front. France had a wave of buyers in the second half of 2020 ahead of the end of the Brexit transition period, while buyers in Spain tended to hang back.
"Now that trend is reversed, with holiday homes in Spain attracting a lot of interest.

"This really is a good time to make an offer – many of those holiday homes face a second summer without rental income.
"You can always make an offer contingent on seeing the property when flights resume.
"For retirement, people still don't know exactly how the retirement visa processes will work, but as they become clearer and we see other people doing it, we expect a retirement in the beauty of France and the sunshine of Spain to be as popular as ever.
"If the bureaucracy for those countries is too obstructive, however, Portugal and Greece have both shown willingness to encourage wealthy British retirees, with low tax schemes and 'golden' visas."
